Overview

The 2024 Highlander XSE brings a sport-oriented version of Toyota’s three-row midsize SUV: distinctive styling, firmer suspension tuning, and enhanced exterior accents while retaining family-friendly space and features. Standard for XSE is the 2.4-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine (265 hp / 310 lb-ft) when paired with the gas model. 
It shares the third-row capability and many safety/comfort features of the Highlander line but with a sharper appearance and feel.

Engine & Drivetrain

• The gas XSE uses a 2.4 L turbocharged 4-cylinder producing 265 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.

• It uses an 8-speed automatic transmission. 

• Drivetrain options: front-wheel drive (FWD) standard, all-wheel drive (AWD) available. AWD versions list a slightly lower combined MPG (~24 mpg) versus FWD (~25 mpg) for the XSE gas model. 

• On AWD models, Toyota’s Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive (TV-AWD) is available, enhancing rear power distribution and allowing better handling/traction. 

Exterior & Styling (XSE-specific)

The XSE distinguishes itself with sport styling touches:

• 20-inch black alloy wheels. 

• Black roof rails, black exterior accents (depending on packages).

• Mesh front grille with lower front spoiler, twin-tip exhaust outlets. 

• The suspension is retuned for a sportier stance: higher-rate springs, shock absorbers, a rear stabilizer bar; overall lowered/athletic stance.

Interior & Features

Inside, the XSE retains family-friendly practicality but combines it with sporty accents:

• Seating for up to seven (XSE uses second-row captain’s chairs as standard; a bench seat may be optional to maintain eight seats) depending on configuration. 

• Upholstery options include SofTex® (Toyota’s synthetic leather) and fabric inserts, and optional red-and-black leather with red stitching for a bolder look. 

• Ambient interior lighting is standard/available in XSE. 

• Infotainment: Base screen size is smaller (8-inch), but higher options include a 12.3-inch touchscreen plus JBL premium audio system. 

• Standard driver-assist and safety technology from Toyota’s suite (e.g., Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+). 

Practicality & Capability

• Cargo space: With second- and third-rows folded, the Highlander offers up to about 84.3 cubic feet of space in many configurations. 

• Towing: In certain configurations (especially with the 2.4L turbo engine and AWD), towing capacity is up to approximately 5,000 lbs (depending on equipment).

• Multi-Terrain Select: On AWD models, a terrain mode selector (Mud & Sand, Rock & Dirt, Snow, Normal) is available to help with traction off-pavement.
